Tips for
getting your letter to the editor published:
1. Tell Your Story: Your story and
your own words are the most compelling.
2. Emphasize the Positive: Even
if you are writing in response to a negative article,
focus instead on the positive aspects of immigration reform.
3. Use Details: Mention
a recent article in the newspaper or include specific
details that you think are important for readers
to know.
4. Keep It Short: The
more to the point and focused you can make your letter
the more effective it will be. Try to keep your letter
to 100 to 250 words. This will prevent an editor from
cutting out what you really want to say.
5. Include Your Contact Information: Be
sure to include your name, address and phone number with
your letter. Most newspapers contact letter writers to
verify their identity before they are published. |
